Will Aid – don’t leave things to chance?

It may be surprising to hear but around 60% of adults in the UK do not have a Will.  Are you one of them?  Would you like to decide what happens with your estate or are you happy to leave it to a stranger to decide?

If you expect everything to go to your spouse you could be wrong.  The rules of intestacy are quite clear and there are limits on the amount your spouse will inherit in certain circumstances.

You may think you are ok as you have already made a Will, but have you got married since making it?  It is worth checking it is still valid as marriage will revoke any previous will.

If you don’t have a Will or if it needs updating then November is the ideal time to have one written with Will Aid.

Will Aid gives you the opportunity to see a Solicitor who will write your Will for you for free in exchange for you making a donation to charity. Suggested minimum donation is £90 for a basic Will, £135 for a pair of basic mirror Wills and £40 for a codicil).  There are nine charities involved including Save the Children, British Red Cross and Age UK.

This also comes at a time when a survey carried out by the Office of National Statistics say donations to charity have fallen by 20% in real terms in the past year, so not only will you be helping yourself you will be helping the charities involved.

Go to www.willaid.org.uk for further details and information on participating solicitors. this is only for November so don’t wait any longer.
