At Proposito Financial Planning we understand the important role that charities can play in enriching lives during difficult times. In recent years we have supported these organisations doing splendid work for people who need support.
Helen & Douglas House
2013 & 2014
Helen House, which opened in 1982, was the world’s first children’s hospice. Douglas House was opened in 2004 to cater for the needs of young adults between 16 – 35.
They provide the time and expertise to care for children and young adults with life-shortening conditions and support their families. The two hospice houses offer specialist symptom and pain management, medically-supported short breaks and end-of-life care, as well as counselling and practical support for the whole family. Charlton Lights is the passion of local resident Michaela Swadling-Stickler, who has made it her mission to put on a superb christmas light show every year to raise money for Epilepsy Research UK. Since losing her father to epilepsy in 2009 Michelle has adorned her house and garden in the village of Charlton. The display, made up of over 100,000 thousands of lights and has tripled in size over the last few years. It takes over 3 months for Michaela and her brother to get them ready; even with the help of three electricians working full time for a week. But the hard work is paying off – the display attracts visitors from across the county with many more choosing to donate online.
If you are passing near Malmesbury then it is well worth taking a look, or if you want to learn more about Charlton Lights here.
