The importance of online security

By Jade Shelton

Data security is vitally important. In the past we’ve struggled with sending documents electronically. All electronic messages and documents we send to each other should be sent securely. This means encrypted due to their sensitive nature. Actually this also applies to the documents we send each other through the post too. If a criminal were to get hold of the data we exchange they could have a field day.  There’s a been big increase in the number of scams and attempted fraud during the current COVID19 situation. Whilst a crisis brings out the best in most people, there are those who look to exploit the situation for their own gain.

Last year, we introduced a new secure messaging service called Filehaven. Filehaven was built as a viable e-mail alternative for businesses that take security seriously and we are so far, pleased with its functionality.

Our previous attempts at encryption haven’t been as user friendly as we had hoped. Let’s face it, opening an encrypted e-mail can be a real pain. As for sending an encrypted e-mail, well let’s not get started on that.

We’ve already tried and tested Filehaven with a large majority of our clients, and it seems to be working successfully. One of our users said “I found logging in and downloading everything quite easy and I’m not really computer literate”.

We would like to encourage more of our clients to sign up to using Filehaven as opposed to sending data sensitive information via e-mail, as this is not secure and if your e-mail is intercepted by a hacker, then the damage could be detrimental.  And we don’t want that to happen to any of you.

Features of Filehaven include:

  • Real-time Messaging – wherever you are, you will always be connected.
  • Rock-solid Encryption – All messages and files are encrypted to the same strength as classified government information.

If you have not yet signed up to Filehaven, we will be looking to register you during your refine meeting that you have with Huw each year.  This will enable us to easily monitor who has or hasn’t signed up, and it will also give you the opportunity to ask any questions that you have regarding Filehaven.  Once this has been set up, this will replace our e-mails to you to ensure that all communication exchanged between us is secure. This means that going forwards, to send us a message or a document electronically, you will then be able to use Filehaven.

There is a page on our website with answers to lots of frequently asked questions and links to ‘How To’ videos. All this can be found here!

If you would like to discuss this further with us, then please do get in touch.  In the meantime, stay safe, both online and in the real world!
