Market numbers

A relatively quiet Thursday on the markets in a week which marks the start of bank holiday season.  It seems that many have taken advantage of the nice weather to take a few days off following the hectic end to the last tax year.  I’m sure many are enjoying a Pimms & Lemonade in the sunshine rather than their usual P & L.

Any traders that made it to their terminals this week have seen the FTSE All Share index, representing the performance of all 623 eligible companies listed on the London Stock Exchange, finish the week at 3,124.35.  That’s a gain of 0.01 points on the day and a gain of 14.04 points over the week from its 3,110.31 opening value on Monday.

So far this year the FTSE All Share index, which accounts for approximately 98% of the UK’s market capitalisation, has gone up 61.50 points (2.01%) from its’ opening price of 3062.85 at the start of trading on 4th January 2011.
