True loves be warned
Despite a weak economic picture, the Christmas Price Index (CPI) has jumped a staggering 9.2% this year, the second highest jump in its 27-year history.
Buying all the presents in “The 12 Days of Christmas” carol would cost nearly $1,974 more than last year, with a total price tag of $23,439, according to the economic analysis by PNC Wealth Management.
The jump can be largely attributed to the sharp rise in gold prices this year, with the cost of five gold rings up 30% to $650.
Bird prices also impacted the index after modest increases last year, mainly due to the cost of feed and availability and demand issues. The highest flyers were the Two Turtle Doves, increasing 78.6% to $100 and the Three French Hens, surging 233% to $150.
Shopping on the Internet won’t save True Loves any money either with the online cost totaling $34,336, more than $11K up on the traditional list. Its just not simple to ship Seven Swans-a-Swimming so delivery costs push up the prices!
