Can’t get financially organised?

By Anne Manning

So, why is it that people cannot get financially organised?

Is it a lack of trying or a way of hiding from the reality of their financial situation.

In my experience it is often the latter, but it can be a mixture of the two.

You may be scared of the reality of your financial situation.   Money can be a daunting thing to discuss and sometimes people would prefer to avoid the awkward conversations.

However, once like an ostrich, you remove your head from the sand, at least you know the reality.  Whatever that may be.

You also might be the type of person who just doesn’t feel the need to get organised financially, but if you are sometimes life can pass you by.

Those things that you would really like to own never get saved for, because there is no goal.  If there is no goal, then sometimes there is no purpose.

There is no magic formula to becoming financially organised, but initially it takes a small step.

You can start by writing down all of your incomings and outgoings – very important that you include food and petrol/transport costs.

Take a deep breath and in one easy step, you now know what you have left at the end of every month.

Below are some key areas to consider that could also help you to become more financially organised: –

  1. What do you want to achieve?
  2. Be realistic when budgeting – i.e. what do things actually cost at the moment.
  3. Make sure you write down everything – i.e. gym membership, childcare costs, trips out.
  4. Do you need any professional financial help?
  5. Use a financial app, if that helps you.

Whatever it takes for you to feel a little more in control of your finances, it is definitely worth putting the work in.
