Downton Abbey and Income Protection
Many of you may have watched Downton Abbey and have seen the advert for income protection from a well known insurance provider who is the show’s sponsor. It appears this week an ad war has now started with another provider placing an income protection advert during the break.
The two adverts approach income protection from two different angles, with the show’s sponsor coming under criticism for theirs being in ‘poor taste’, having ‘shock tactics’ and being ‘depressing’, even though that situation is exactly the reason you have the cover.
The new advert has a more gentle approach and has not attracted the criticism the other has. Although it may not be as easy to understand and relate to income protection, the analogy is supposed to be ‘having the rug pulled from under you’.
Either way, both adverts should stop and make you think, what would happen if..?
However on a Sunday evening is this when people really want to be reminded of this? From the traffic on twitter, people seem to say they don’t.
All this aside the response, good or bad that these adverts have generated has raised the issue of income protection, which many people have never considered.
Income protection is something that we discuss with all our clients as part of our financial planning service. This is to ensure that they have considered the effect of not having such cover and the range of options available to them.
If you would like to talk to Proposito about income protection options or any other aspect of financial planning then please don’t hesitate to call us on 0845 345 3536.
