Market numbersAfter an extremely volatile week on the markets the FTSE All Share index has finished the week at 2,973.64, an increase of 13.73 points on the day but 52.6 points lower than its 3,026.24 opening value at the start of the week.

The FTSE All Share index represents the performance of all 623 eligible companies listed on the London Stock Exchange. Trading volumes on Friday were huge – 207 million shares changed hands – and 56% higher than the average trading volume of 133 million shares.

So far this year the FTSE All Share index, which accounts for approximately 98% of the UK’s market capitalisation, has fallen 89.21 from it’s opening price of 3062.85 at the start of trading on 4th January 2011.
