Market Summary: 1st April 2011

Market numbersThe FTSE All Share index, representing the performance of all 626 eligible companies listed on the London Stock Exchange has finished the week at 3,116.83, an increase of 49.55 points on the day and 50.99 points higher than its opening value of 3,065.84 at the start of the week.

So far this year the FTSE All Share index, which accounts for approximately 98% of the UK’s market capitalisation, has gone up 53.98 (1.76%) from its’ opening value of 3062.85 at the start of trading on 4th January 2011.

In the final full week of trading in the current tax year trading volumes in the FSTE All Share index returned to more normal levels.  138M shares were traded during Friday’s market session – slightly up on the 120M shares average daily trading volume.
