Market Summary: 20th May 2011
The FTSE All Share index, representing the performance of all 623 eligible companies listed on the London Stock Exchange has finished the week at 3,099.97, a slight decrease of 3.02 points on the day and 9.45 points higher than its’ 3,102.99 opening value at the start of the week.
So far this year the FTSE All Share index, which accounts for approximately 98% of the UK’s market capitalisation, has gone up 37.12 points from its’ opening price of 3062.85 at the start of trading on 4th January 2011.
The Bank of England (BoE) base rate remains at its’ 350 year record low of 0.5%. The MPC has maintained rates at this level since a reduction from 1.00% on 5th March 2009.
