Market Summary: 26th August 2011

Market numbersThe FTSE All Share index, representing the performance of all eligible companies listed on the London Stock Exchange has finished the week at 2,663.53, an increase of 8.29 points on the day and 47.19 (1.8%) points higher than its 2,616.34 opening value at the start of the week.

So far this year the FTSE All Share index, which accounts for approximately 98% of the UK’s market capitalisation, has gone down 399.32 points from its’ opening price of 3062.85 at the start of trading on 4th January 2011.

At the end of another difficult week on the markets the banks have taken another pasting today.  I can’t decide: do they look cheap or is someone going to follow Northern Rock and Lehman Brothers through the revolving door?. Only time will tell…
