Market numbersThis week was a busy week.  At home we had two birthdays (my daughter was 4 and I was 40). In the office we were flat out dealing with tax year end stuff. In the markets there was the latest MPC decision to do nothing with the Bank of England base rates.

It seems that the markets had a similar week. Trading volumes on Friday were well below the long term averages with a little over 90 million shares changing hands during trading.

The FTSE All Share index, representing the performance of all 626 eligible companies listed on the London Stock Exchange has finished the week at 3,138.23, a gain of 23.72 points on the day and 21.40 points higher than its 3,116.83 opening value at the start of the week.

So far this year the FTSE All Share index, which accounts for approximately 98% of the UK’s market capitalisation, has risen 75.38 points (2.46%) from its’ opening value of 3062.85 at the start of trading on 4th January 2011.
