Ten reasons why we’re not your average financial planners

There are many financial planners in our sector and at Proposito, we have been looking at what makes us different, and why people want to work with us.

We’ve come up with ten key factors which we believe make us stand out and help us foster long-term – indeed lifelong – relationships with many of our clients.

So what makes us different?

The Proposito way of financial planning

  • We charge fixed fees. We think this is important because it makes our fees transparent and fair. If we adopted percentage charging, then clients with larger portfolios would pay more, and those with smaller portfolios pay less, even though the same work is carried out. Our clients know exactly what they are paying for and how much they will pay.
  • We spend time at the start of a relationship with our clients helping them work out what their goals are, and then together putting a plan in place to achieve them. That doesn’t mean we walk in, shake your hand, and say “what are your goals?” because many people just don’t know. But through talking to you, getting to know you and what you want from life, especially post retirement, we can put those goals in place and create a strategy to get there.
  • We regard our work with our clients as a partnership, not a transaction. We see all our clients every year, because the power in financial planning is the ongoing service and adjustments we make as our clients’ circumstances change.
  • We are very experienced in helping people plan their retirement journey and transitioning to their new life afterwards. We’ve helped many, many people over the years, working with them in the lead up to retirement, and carrying on our relationship with them as they move forward.
  • We are chartered and accredited. Neither status is necessary to call yourself a financial planner, but at Proposito we believe this is important. It shows we are committed to attaining the highest level of training in our profession, which we believe ensures we give a better service to our clients. And we are continually learning and training, so we have the latest up-to-date knowledge and information at our fingertips.
  • We’ve been around a very long time! We were founded in 1998 and are a second generation family business. Indeed, some of our clients have been with us throughout.
  • We know our purpose, our mission and our values, and it is these that drive our business and the service we provide our clients. Our purpose is to see people living their most fulfilling retirement and our mission – in other words, how we achieve this – is through planning their best retirement journeys.
  • We offer low cost, globally diversified, index tracking solutions. This means we use investment science to shape our portfolios rather than try to guess what the market is going to do. By low cost, we mean we minimise the money coming out in fees; by globally diversified, we mean we spread the risk; and index tracked means we don’t use a fund manager.
  • We add a level of money coaching to our financial planning, so we can help people make sensible decisions with their money and have a true understanding of their wealth.   • We make things simple for managing change. When people come to see us they usually want to achieve a different result, but to do so they need to take action. This action may not be easy, but we can make the process simple and clear.
