Retirement may be something you’re eagerly looking forward to – an idyllic prospect on the horizon – and something you’re saving hard for accordingly. You may be ticking off the years, months and weeks until you can shut that office door firmly behind you and skip off into the sunset. But when that day arrives what is the main lifelong ambition that you will be fulfilling?

Is it your dream to jet off round the world, go on a luxury cruise, trek up Maccu Pichu or travel in style on the Orient Express? Perhaps you can’t wait to spend more time on the golf course, cycle from Lands End to John O’Groats or simply potter about in the garden.

Retirement is a topic we’re often discussing with our clients. People have all sorts of different dreams and aspirations and we consider it a real privilege to share in those plans and help make them happen.

We’re always interested in getting our clients’ views (and those of people who may not yet be clients) so at the start of 2016 we thought it would be interesting to run a short poll to see what most of you are really saving for in retirement.

Of course, if you are already a client, we will no doubt already have discussed your plans with you, but in this poll we’re looking for an informal snapshot of what the top retirement goal is at this current time.
