Wheel of Life

By Sarah Egan

Everyone needs to start somewhere.  The best place to start when making your plan is here:

The Wheel of Life.

This wheel contains eight sections that represent one way of describing a whole life. It’s designed to measure your level of satisfaction in each area. It is not a picture of how it has been in the past or what you want it to look like in the future. It’s just a snapshot of where you think you are right now.

What to do…

Draw this on a piece of paper (but don’t worry about the circles).

Start with the vertical and horizontal lines. Then add in the diagonals. Divide each line into 10 little sections (1 closest to the centre, 10 on the outside).

The areas we have included aren’t set in stone, if you have other areas you want to look at put those in instead. For example you might want to replace “career and work” with “Volunteering & community” if you’re retired.

With the centre of the wheel as 1 and the outer edge as an ideal 10, rank your level of satisfaction with each life area by drawing a cross on the corresponding line. Join up the crosses on each line. This is your wheel of life.

How round does it look? Is it a smooth ride or bumpy?

Which area(s) that could be improved to make your wheel of life rounder for a smoother ride?

Now think about that area you’re looking to improve and answer these questions:

  1. What was it that made you give the score you did and not a lower score?
  2. What score would you like to achieve in that area? (For someone it might be a 9 or 10, for others a 7 or 8 is good enough)
  3. What is the very next thing that you can do to move your score up by one single notch? That’s the thing that you should focus on doing next

If you need help working out what those actions are or achieving the goals you want to set yourself our LifePath service could be for you. Read more about it here https://proposito.co.uk/what-we-do/.
